It was the fall of 2015 when I dreamed to move to The States and take a step further into my career. It was only a dream until I started preparing to convert my dream into reality and then the next 365 days were a rollercoaster of emotions – I was scared for the change, frustrated with the process, excited for what’s on the other end and nervous to leave everything behind at the same time. The best thing was that I was optimistic because I am a huge believer of “whatever happens, happens for a reason” and I had confidence in myself to make that decision for myself. And thanks to my confidence and the support from all the people who believed in me at that time including my parents, that I am sitting here in The States, writing about my journey as 8 years have passed. I am not going to bore you with my stories but I am here to share my learnings. If this post can help at least 1 person to achieve their goal, it will be a success.

Making a life changing decision to move to a new country and leave your home is not easy. But, you might have heard people saying this multiple times “You have to get uncomfortable if you want to move further”. Believe it or not, it is the bittersweet truth about life. Yes, some people might disagree with me here that you can be successful and be comfortable at the same time. But, is it really true? Or are we just giving the highest priority to our comfort that we are okay with settling our success bar a little lower to feel good? In the end, obviously, do whatever makes you happy and DO NOT LET ANYONE ELSE DECIDE FOR YOU WHAT YOU WANT but, I am just writing this to tell you that “It is okay to be scared”. In the end, whatever you do, people who judge will keep judging. Did you make a decision to get away from your family to make a better life? People might say “You do not care”. Did you make a decision to stay close to your family to support them? People might still say “You are incompetent”

But, are those people offering help to support you? NO… So do not care about who thinks what. It is okay to make a decision that YOU believe in. Go for that job you are offered in a different city which you believe will help you grow. Go for higher studies in a different country which you believe will give you a better life. If there is a 1% chance that the opportunity will help you in a better way, then my friend, take a leap of faith in your own intuition and do not feel scared to say YES. Because I believe “If you want to achieve something, you have to give it a try. Else, you will regret your whole life for not even trying”.
